Fr. Jeremy: Welcome, students!

Miller-Father-Jeremy-webFriends, this weekend brings with it the great news that our UT students are returning for the year! As much as I enjoy the slower pace of summer, the students returning brings a level of enthusiasm that fills me with energy. Their presence is why we exist here at Corpus Christi, and I know you, like me, look forward to another year of ministry to them and supporting them as they grow in their faith and into the young men and women that will change our world and our Church for the better.

If you see a student this weekend, welcome them and assure them of your prayers for them. For the freshman, this whole experience can be quite overwhelming, as you surely know from different transitions in your own life. We want to be a rock of support for them at Corpus Christi as we have been for so many years before.

As I mentioned last weekend in my homily, the grand jury report in Pennsylvania on the extent of the clergy sex abuse crisis has added a sour note to the beginning of this school year. However, the vitality and commitment to change that our young students represent is a significant antidote to the cynicism and also complacency that life in the Church can sometimes engender. They will become great agents of change in making the Church more whole, more transparent, and more accountable in the generations to come.

May God’s blessings overflow in this 2018-2019 academic year!
Fr. Jeremy
