A note from Fr. Phil

Smith-Father-Philip-webDear Parishioners,

Thank you for the kind welcome you extended to me as I preached about vocations during weekend Masses on October 26-27, 2019.

My mission as Director of the Office for Diocesan Priestly Vocations is to help men in our diocese be open to the possibility that God might be calling them to the priesthood. I encourage any man who may wonder if God is calling him to the priesthood to speak to your parish priest or to contact me by email or visit our new website.

I will also be hosting a men’s discernment retreat for college students and young adults November 23 – 24, 2019 in the Toledo area. Please contact me if you would like more information or would like to attend.

Corpus Christi University Parish has a strong tradition of helping students answer God’s call to the priesthood. I am aware of at least 9 current seminarians who attended Corpus Christi University Parish when they were students at The University of Toledo. Five of these seminarians are affiliated with the Diocese of Toledo: Kyle Ink, Jacob Livecchi, Bradley McNeal, Andrew Messer, and Deacon Kevin Moebius.

Four alumni of The University of Toledo are studying to serve in their home dioceses or are in formation for religious life:

  • Alexander Aldanak (Diocese of Cleveland)
  • Kevin LeMelle (Archdiocese of Cincinnati)
  • Jacob Schneider (Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend)
  • Grant Wohl (Oblates of St. Francis De Sales)

Know that your support of the student ministry at Corpus Christi University Parish has a direct impact on forming enthusiastic servant leaders for the Church. Please pray that the strong tradition of answering God’s call will continue in the current students at Corpus Christi University Parish.

Gratefully,
Father Philip Smith
Director of the Office for Priestly Vocations, Diocese of Toledo
